Holiday in Australia?

4 December, 2008 (03:46) | Car Rental Perth | By: admin

As a couple of oldies we would like to try and organise a three month trip to Oz starting out at Cairns for one month move on to Adelaide for one month and finish in Perth with family for the final month. Would it be possible to get a rental in these places for 1 month? We would hire a car for a month and fly between Cairns, Adelaide and Perth hopefully. Any links for info would be appreciated. We have looked at motorhomes but this seems a pretty expensive alternative. We thought about £400 a month rental, does this sound achievable? We have a bit to spend but we are not millionairs and would like to do this before it is to late Any idea about the cost of flights between these places? Or the railway might be another alternative. Could this be organised by us or would it be better to go to a travel agent? Just fancy the rush we would get organising this ourselves.

Internal flights are dirt cheap. I would say book them online. Personally, I wouldn't go on the train cos the journeys are too long, especially when the flights are so cheap.

I've only been to Cairns out of those places. Have a great time - no doubt you will.

Temporary Accommodations in Canberra?

26 November, 2008 (10:58) | Car Rental Perth | By: admin

In the next month or so we are hoping to move from Perth to Canberra and will need temporary accommodation for the two of us for several days when we first arrive.
Any suggestions or ideas for an economical self-contained, flat or apartment that we could stay in while searching for a rental? We hope to have one of our cars waiting for us when we arrive so transport will not be an issue.

It very much depends on your budget. A google search will offer you lots of suggestions for the many apartment hotels dotted around the city. The more salubrious areas with this type of accommodation include Manuka, Kingston and Civic. Here are some examples:
http://www.griffinhotels.com/
http://www.waldorfcanberra.com.au/
http://www.kingstonterrace.com.au/

A directory of apartments (with pics) can be found at:
http://www.totaltravel.com.au/travel/nsw/canberraact/directory/apartments

It's pretty challenging to find good rental property since demand is so high, so focus on something that offers you a longer-term rate if possible. You may have to wait a few weeks before you find the perfect rental…

You can also arrange appointments to view some rentals ahead of your arrival:

Check out LJ hooker's rental website, for example, at:
http://www.ljhooker.com.au/quicksearch.php?passholiday=&category=rent&type=residential&id=01&surround=2&searchtype=nv®ion=rg&state=ACT&suburbcodex=2935&r2egionpass=93

Best of luck and enjoy Canberra! It's a great place to live!

It’s so close, yet so far?

16 November, 2008 (08:36) | Car Rental Perth | By: admin

Can some Australians from West Australia tell me what I have to look forward to when I go to Perth, Things to do, what kind of clothes to bring. I’m staying for a month, I was planning to go in October of 2010 but I want to go during the summer season, is October still a nice time of year over there, I know it’s spring during October. I’m relying on walking when I go over there to do sight seeing, is that a good idea? I know I can’t cover as much ground as I would with a rental car but my funds will be a little tight.
Thanks to all who have given me suggestions so far, I hope one of you are around when I go there, maybe you can be my tour guide :)
Hopefully people will give me more suggestions

Great choice! Most overseas visotors give us here in the West a miss coz we are a bit isolated from the rest of the country!

As someone else mentioned, weather during that time can be a bit all over the place. You will need a variety of clothes.

As for things to do, there is heaps in Perth. If you like Wine, there is the Swan Valley. Also has Breweries, Icecream shops, Chocloate Factoriy and other things.

Kings Park gives you a great view of our city & is lovely to walk around (there will be lots of wildflowers out while you are here)

Fremantle is a great place to hang out. Quite an eclectic mix of things to do. Accessable easily on the train.

Lot’s of nice places in the hills to walk around (Araluen, Mundaring Weir for eg)

Any of the beaches you can get to are nice - though I don’t think you will be swimming as it will be a bit chilly in the water.

Perth Zoo is nice.

Catch a train down to Mandurah for a little look. (not everyone’s cup of tea!) About an hour south of Perth.

Even a coach (bus) further South to Margaret River, Busselton or bunbury is not too expensive.

ENJOY!

Me and my partner are moving to perth. What should we do before we move?

14 November, 2008 (06:54) | Car Rental Perth | By: admin

Should we find jobs and a rental before we go over there or is it easy to just arrive and find when we get there (i am a legal secretary & my partner is a roadworker)?

We are going to have around $3,000.00 to start of with will this be enough?

Do we need to buy a car when we move over there?

Also what would be our average earnings if we were to work over there with our current occupation?

and… are there many good markets over there?

We currently live in Whangarei, NZ and just want to earn big dollars and try and save some money and relax in a great relaxing city.

$3,000 is not much - when renting a place you need 4 weeks in advance and 2 weeks bond - so if a place is $300 a week, that's $1,800 gone there. Then again if you are wanting just a one bedroom unit it would be alot cheaper…
Buying a car - it really depends if you are wanting your Independence, are you used to having one, will you be living next to easy transport access etc…. make that decision once there. Registering your car is alot more expensive here than NZ and changes each state. I live in Cairns so can't comment on markets etc over there. However check out the following sites to help you with your move.
Good Luck with it all !

Need info on Perth regarding accomodation?

10 November, 2008 (11:08) | Car Rental Perth | By: admin

I will be re-locating to Perth in Dec 2006. Will be working in Balcatta area. I wish to find an accomodation for me and my family. Can I get a place for rental that is fully furnished there? Or I have to buy the furnitures? Can anyone recommend shops that sell 2nd hand furnitures and cars?
Is it easy to get chinese, indian food?

Great suggestions above! Can I add that a lot of Balcatta is commercial/light industrial so you may prefer looking in suburbs closer to the ocean, such as North Beach or Karrinyup. The beachside suburb of Scarborough has short-term accommodation, some furnished. A lot of second-hand furniture and cars can be bought privately from a paper called the "Quokka", and to get the stuff home, a trailer or a van can easily be hired. Or you can join the local freecycle group to score second-hand goods that people give away.
Most neighbourhoods have chinese and indian restaurants.

Car rental at the Shannon airport?

14 September, 2008 (19:43) | Car Rental Perth | By: admin

Hi - my question has to do with picking up a car at the Shannon Airport (or in Shannon) for 3 days in July. I know I can go to the website and look there but at many airports that I have been to, there is a poster board with lots of perfectly fine local companies that are much cheaper than the usual suspects. Perth Australia is a good example: never reserve a car if going there because you can get one much cheaper on the spot. So, can I just show up in July and rent from a smaller company there and then at the airport in Shannon Ireland?

The bigger companies are at Shannon as is a local firm called Dan Dooley.

I used them years ago and there were ok. I just think it's a bit chancy turning up in July without a booking as that's the busy season.
