How far away from the Melbourne airport is cranbourne?

13 October, 2008 (09:24) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

I have to visit this place and what to know do i need a rental car to drive from the airport in Melbourne to Cranbourne or dandynong? Or wil a train get me there? How many hours drive is it? Or can i get a taxi?

i have no idea! Can someone please let me know!

Also what is there to do in this area, good shopping or is that more in the city?

thank you so much if you can answer my questions

Hi if I was u it would be easier to hire a rental car distance approx 75-80klms on toll roads..
Taxi costs $ 150 approx re shopping it's OK Melbourne or Chadstone is far better even Dandenong has a great shopping precinct
OR
even stopping at DFO (Direct Factory Outlet's) ex Essendon Airport will give u a great shopping experience.
OR
Take Sky-bus to City Catch train to Cranbourne but u will need transport when there…Cost approx $35 all up..Cheers ♥

Speeding ticket in Australia - consequences?

11 October, 2008 (06:48) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

After my vacation to Australia, I was mailed a traffic infringement notice from the Victoria Police for speeding in Melbourne. A traffic camera caught my rental car going 13 km/h (~8mph) over the speed limit. The penalty stated is $220 and 3 demerit points.

As a U.S. citizen, and I required to pay this penalty? What would happen if I ignored this ticket? Would I be prevented from revisiting Australia?

You should probably pay just to avoid any possible issue that may arise if you decide to visit again. As of now, there isn't a law that will prohibit you from re-entering the country but it may change to something stricter one day like death by firing squad (and you wouldn't want to find out the hard way!)

Moving to Melborne from Chatham NJ, USA?

9 October, 2008 (03:40) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

My husband & I & our little girl (8 month) are moving to Melbourne from Chatham in USA. We will be working in Lonsdale St. We are looking to spend approx 450-500pw on rental, close to shops, parks, etc.Which suburbs would be best?
What is ave monthly cost of utilities - ave usage -(water, elect, heating, tv, telephone, internet, food, fuel)?
How much is a new car (ave size - eg, Golf, audi A4)?
What is the approx cost of daycare for 3 days a week?

Thanks for the help!
What are the average work hours for someone in a large professional services firm?

The following website is designed for people moving to Melbourne and answers a lot of the questions you have. http://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=14&languageId=1&contentId=-1 You could also ask your husband if there is someone at his new job that could help you both find accommodation etc.

spring training baseball in florida?

7 October, 2008 (02:06) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

I was curious on a good place i could stay to see the detroit tigers in lakeland. I would like to be in the middle of at 4 ball parks if possible. I am from detroit so obviously i want to see a few tigers games. I would probablly be spending about 7-10 days in florida

does anyone have any ideas where I can stay thats near a few baseball parks? I stayed in tampa last yr. I stayed at the days inn on melbourne blvd and the hotel and area was really rough.

i am a die hard baseball fan Im just looking for a place to stay thats not over expensive and near a few ball parks
thanks
nick

any ideas?

Plus, I will be turning 23 in feb and i understand car rental companies charge people under 25 through the roof. are there any companies or a cheap way to rent a car? I’l be flying out of detroit to tampa

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the Grapefruit League, but we used to go every year back in the 90’s. There used to be a few reasonably priced motels in the Baseball City area (which probably isn’t called that anymore) at the intersection of I-4 and and US-27. It’s where the Royals held camp until a few years ago before moving to Arizona. It is a short drive from there to Kissimmee (Astros), Disney (Braves), and Lakeland. It’s not far from Winter Haven either, but the Indians have moved out for next spring. The next closest would be a bit further, probably Tampa (Yankees).

There is a Hampton Inn, Quality Inn, and Best Western in that area.

Lakeland is a nice little town and you might be best off staying there, if you’re going to see more than one game there anyway. It wouldn’t be too far to Tampa, Kissimmee, or Disney from there either. I haven’t stayed there, but I recall there being several decent hotels.

Another option might be the Brandon/Tampa East area. It would be a bit more of a drive to Lakeland, but within a reasonable drive to Tampa, Bradenton (Pirates), and even Sarasota (Reds), Clearwater (Phillies) and Dunedin (Blue Jays), plus all there is in Tampa itself.

Enjoy! Nothing like going to spring training in March. I miss it so!

Speeding ticket in Australia - consequences?

5 October, 2008 (04:22) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

Yes, you are legally obligated to pay the fine - why would it make a difference if you're a US citizen or not? It may not prevent you from entering Australia again, but it might cause you a delay at passport control if you try to go back and there will certainly be an additional fine before you get in when you go back if you ignore the ticket. The outstanding ticket will be linked to your passport record in a database.

can you educate me on living in Melbourne?

3 October, 2008 (01:22) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

Any info would be great, as my intentions are to be living there with in 6 months . links to rental units , what the winters are like there keep in mind I currently live in Canada, night life, car insuarance rates, beaches, livable wage there, are people easy to meet there, male to female ratio,is it easy to commute by transit, anything to help me make my choice a more enjoyable expeirence. I'm 31 yrs. old single male would like to be close to the beach, 20 mins or closer (would love to be able to see the water if possible from where I would live) Close to the bar scene, and could you give me what you would rate living in Melbourne from 1 to 10 compaired to living elsewere in Australia and why?If you think It better to live elsewhere in Australia please state where and why… thanks so much

G'day

Melbourne…. wellll… where should I start?
1. First of all… some people do not like the weather in Melbourne (you can have 4 seasons in one day). However, if you read the first article from The Age newspaper, you will find out that the weather is still more preferable than the other cities. Sure you can have 42C day like yesterday, but almost immediately you'll get a much cooler weather pretty soon afterwards. It is very rarely that you got 2 or 3 consecutive days of hot weathers (unlike Sydney, Brisbane or Perth).
2. Melbourne is a city of diversity. If you are a newcomer, and you do not look 'Anglo-Saxon', you do not feel like an 'alien', since you can find almost every race in the world walking in the city. They are both immigrants and overseas students.
3. THE FOOD!! Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Thai, All-you-can-eat, African, Lebanese, Mexican, Sea Food… anything else? All available and lots of them in a very-very-very affordable price
4. Pretty good public transport system. With one ticket, you can switch from train, tram and bus. They do not always come on-time, but still reliable and improving (www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au).
5. SHOPPING!!! Branded clothing sold very cheap. There are even shopping tour, where the participants are taken to retails outlets just for shopping. Big temptations for ladies.
6. Crime rates… just read the second article on the bottom.
7. Cost of Living… I'll say it's second most expensive city after Sydney. Altho I have to say that some cities in Queensland can be more expensive to live.
8. Night Life… hmmmm… I'll say the centre of nite activities will be Crown Casino and Docklands. Altho there are still plenty of cafe's and clubs scattered around the suburbs as well.
9. Tourist attraction. This is the area that I think Sydney is better than Melbourne, since it has most of it's attraction within its suburbs. Most Melbourne attraction are pretty much out of Melbourne, such as the gold mines in the cities of Bendigo and Ballarat, The Great Ocean Road, Lakes Entrance, Grampians, skiing in Mt. Buller etc.

Living closer to the beach will be the suburbs of Altona, Port Melbourne, Williamstown, St. Kilda, Elwood and Brighton to mention some that are pretty close to CBD. You can cross reference with some real-estate websites to know the rental costs (www.realestate.com.au or www.domain.com.au).

Car insurance websites (with online quote facility):
www.racv.com.au
www.aami.com.au
www.gio.com.au
www.allianz.com.au

Meeting people will be as easy as in any other western countries in the world. I guess the pub/bar still the option.

Job/salary websites:
www.seek.com.au
www.mycareer.com.au
www.careerone.com.au

Running out of ideas, but I hope that I can at least give you some more informations that have been provided by the answerers before me.

Good luck and welcome to Melbourne. I've been living in Melbourne for 16 years and still giving Melbourne 10/10 for the best city in Oz.

Insurance claim in Melbourne???

29 September, 2008 (00:28) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

I had an accident and my car is now in a panel shop here in Melbourne. It’s been 2 weeks today(Thursday-04/09/08) and it’s still not ready yet as the parts that they want is not available in the market or at Holden dealer. My policy doesn’t have any rental car option, but i can choose a repairer who can lend his car while he fix mine. The repairer chosen by me doesn’t provide any loan car and now says he can’t fix this and can take another 3 weeks.
Now my question is, can i do something about this?? can i by anyhow get my car back sooner? or can make a claim for my rental car?
Is there any way out that you may aware off?

Please advice.

who should read th PDS
before taking out insurance

What can i do when someone parked in the parking lot of the rental property i live in?

27 September, 2008 (03:32) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

i want to know if i can get the car towed away without me incurring any charges.

i live in melbourne, williamstown.

If your lease shows you pay for a private space and that space is it, then you should be able to call the police yourself and they can have it towed away at no cost to you. Or, if there are no parking private property signs, violators will be towed sign's posted, then you should be able to call a specific towing company who would be happy to tow the car at no cost to you. That is how it works where I live. It may be different by you. Good luck!

how far is it from sydney to melbourne?

25 September, 2008 (04:32) | Car Rental Melbourne | By: admin

i am a tourist coming to australia for holiday, how long drive is it going to take from sydney to melbourne?
if i want to rent a car, what car rental company is cheap and good? should i book before i come? i am coming about january or february? is a normal sedan or hatch enough?
what if i want to go from sydney to canberra then stay for a couple of days in canberra then to melbourne.
so how long does it take from sydney to canberra. and from canberra to melbourne

theres two way, the princess and the hume highway, one is coastal and takes around 13 hours coastally scenic alot of small towns, the princess, the surfing side of australia, the other is 11hours though the country, big stretch of roads between small and quaint towns, the hume(very hot this way,but youll see a part of austalia you would never see on the coast), pubs and paddocked this way, lot of history as well
sedan should be enough, in a hatch ud be pushing it
if you plan on cutting your trip in to 2 days, top places to stay are gundigui or if you dont mind unevenly breaking the days of driving albany, on the hume, or lakes entrance on the princess
