One way car rental - west to east?

4 November, 2008 (04:42) | Car Rental Brisbane | By: admin

Hi all,

I want to drive from the west coast to the east coast. I’d like to pick up a car in Perth, and drop it off in either Brisbane or Sydney a month later. Now, all the rental companies I have reviewed so far, charge quite a hefty one way charge. Because of the length of the hire, and the direction of travel (against most one way traffic), I’m sure it should be possible to rent a car without having to pay a one way charge. Does anyone have any experience with this, and who do I turn to, in order to rent a car without paying through the nose?

Thanks,

Ti

Unfortunatly with car hire they all charge fees if you are not returning the car to the location you picked it up.

Make sure you are looking at companies that are equally as big in Syd or Bris as they are in Perth, if they only small on the east coast they are more likely to charge you more.

One suggestion, the Indian Express is a good trip, its a train that runs from Perth to Sydney. Running West - East is also about 1/2 the price as it comes back mostly empty, people usually train over and fly back.

i have a quote of A$600 for a 2-4yrs old toyota corolla for a period of 24 days to rent from Brisbane to Adelaide.they mentioned that the excess is A$2000.would it be a better idea to pay A$500 more to reduce the excess to A$250 or is it ok to stick to the A$2000 excess without paying more for excess reduction?also are there anything to take note of renting cars in Australia?is it generally safe to park on the roadside in Australia?thanks for your ideas!

It is fine to park on the roadside in most places, but use your common sense

Risk of excess? your call..insurance is generally a scam…

i am thinking of a one way rental from adelaide to brisbane?any tips?thanks!

hey, most major car rental companies have branches all over the country, rent from hertz, europcar, avis and the likes; you are more likely to get rent a car and be told where to drop it off at which state.
