Quicker Car Rental Australia

It’s so close, yet so far?

Can some Australians from West Australia tell me what I have to look forward to when I go to Perth, Things to do, what kind of clothes to bring. I’m staying for a month, I was planning to go in October of 2010 but I want to go during the summer season, is October still a nice time of year over there, I know it’s spring during October. I’m relying on walking when I go over there to do sight seeing, is that a good idea? I know I can’t cover as much ground as I would with a rental car but my funds will be a little tight.
Thanks to all who have given me suggestions so far, I hope one of you are around when I go there, maybe you can be my tour guide :)
Hopefully people will give me more suggestions

Great choice! Most overseas visotors give us here in the West a miss coz we are a bit isolated from the rest of the country!

As someone else mentioned, weather during that time can be a bit all over the place. You will need a variety of clothes.

As for things to do, there is heaps in Perth. If you like Wine, there is the Swan Valley. Also has Breweries, Icecream shops, Chocloate Factoriy and other things.

Kings Park gives you a great view of our city & is lovely to walk around (there will be lots of wildflowers out while you are here)

Fremantle is a great place to hang out. Quite an eclectic mix of things to do. Accessable easily on the train.

Lot’s of nice places in the hills to walk around (Araluen, Mundaring Weir for eg)

Any of the beaches you can get to are nice - though I don’t think you will be swimming as it will be a bit chilly in the water.

Perth Zoo is nice.

Catch a train down to Mandurah for a little look. (not everyone’s cup of tea!) About an hour south of Perth.

Even a coach (bus) further South to Margaret River, Busselton or bunbury is not too expensive.

ENJOY!

At the moment it is raining,,so at this time off year you have to bring everything from windy cool day’s jumpers and long pants to hot days shorts thongs and tank tops, you are most probably better off mid nov-mid dec, if you can.
I think the public transport system is alright, you can get from perth to mandurah on the trains, you will be able to go to rottnest on the ferry,
you can get coach line buses fairly cheap, for trips N,S&E, off perth,
you have the zoo, kings park, quite a few museums, cricket is just starting
There is sh*t loads of stuff that i have missed/forgotten,but i have lived here all my life
